There was a several-hours-long delay while the Supreme Court reviewed the case, but a stay has not been issued.
Reasonable doubt is for the jury case, not for the execution.
I am told that the parole board can take public opinion into consideration, but I can’t verify that. If they can, I cannot get a grip on how Mr. Davis wasn’t granted clemency.
It just sucks. It sucks for the Davis family, it sucks for the MacPhail family, it just sucks.
Troy Davis died at 11:08 tonight.
I don’t think I’d be surprised if it came out years from now that he was innocent.
Ya know what doesn’t suck? That fucking white supremacist, who chained Mr. Byrd to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him along a rough logging road to his death, being executed.
Well, you know what they say: people who aren’t guilty of something don’t end up in prison.
But despite what they tell me about the recantations being not recantations and all that malarkey, I think there were too many questions to have put this man to death.
I don’t know if he killed that officer or not. That’s between him and God. I just wish he weren’t facing God just yet.
I’m sad by this news this morning, I went to bed early last night 😦
I’m glad you didn’t stay up for it. It was awful.
It’s things like this that make me want to stop and observe whenever I see someone of color pulled over by the police–just to make sure.
